Abstract

Mallomonas pseudocorymbosa sp. nov. was described from Vietnam based on silica-scale morphology studied by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. This species belongs to the section Mallomonas. The distribution and habitat conditions of the new species were summarised. Mallomonas pseudocorymbosa was found in 17 localities in 13 provinces in Vietnam. A revision of the records in the tropical region of similar species Mallomonas corymbosa initially described from the arctic latitudes was made. All findings of Mallomonas corymbosa in the tropical region and the southern hemisphere belonged to Mallomonas pseudocorymbosa. Based on the available data, Mallomonas corymbosa has a northern temperate distribution.
