Abstract

A new species of the genus Pinnularia is described, Pinnularia dongzhenensis sp. nov., from the Dongzhen Reservoir, Putian City, Fujian Province, China. This new taxon is characterized by having narrowly linear-lanceolate valves, slightly undulate margins and a slightly constricted center, subcapitate apices, narrow axial area and a central area generally forming an asymmetric, rhomboid fascia. The species is compared to Pinnularia nodosa var. hankensis, P. stauroptera var. longa, P. lange-bertalotii, P. pulchra, P. beyensii and P. daerbinsis, all of which closely resemble Pinnularia dongzhenensis sp. nov. but differ from the new species in specific details of size, valve shape and stria density.
