Abstract

Aristolochiaceae (order Piperales) traditionally comprises about 600 species and four genera: Aristolochia Linnaeus (1753: 960), Asarum Linnaeus (1753: 442), Saruma Oliver (1889: Pl. 1895) and Thotthea Rottbøll (1783: 529) (González 1990: 2012). Aristolochia is the most diversified genus of the family with about 550 species (González 2012).
