On taxonomic status of Macromitrium leptocarpum and M. subleptocarpum, with comments on M. sulcatum (Bryophytea, Orthotrichaceae)

Abstract

Macromitrium sulcatum (Hook.) Brid., M. leptocarpum Broth. and M. subleptocarpum Dixon & P. de la Varde are similar in their gametophytes. Having studied their type and ordinary specimens, we treat M. subleptocarpum as a synonym of M. leptocarpum, and the latter as M. sulcatum var. leptocarpum (Broth.) J. Ying, D. D. Li, Y Li & S. L. Guo comb. nov. The variation of M. sulcatum and its infraspecific taxa are also discussed.
