Abstract

Ficus subg. Pharmacosycea sect. Pharmacosycea (Moraceae, Rosales) is a monophyletic and neotropical plant group characterized mainly by having a syconia with three basal bracts and male flowers with two stamens. Colombia has the largest diversity of Ficus but taxonomic studies on this group are scant, thus we aimed to revise the taxonomy of F. sect. Pharmacosycea. This study is based on fieldwork, examination of herbarium material and literature. Pharmacosycea in Colombia comprises 21 species, 14 are commonly known: F. apollinaris, F. carchiana, F. crassiuscula, F. dewolfii, F. dulciaria, F. gigantosyce, F. insipida, F. maxima, F. mutisii, F. pulchella, F. rieberiana, F. segoviae, F. tonduzii, and F. yoponensis; and six have been treated as synonyms previously: F. aequatorialis, F. macrosyce, F. mexicana, F. santanderana, F. torresiana and F. ulei. Ten lectotypes and two neotypes were designated here.
