1 new species Coffea arabica Cordanaceae Microfungi taxonomy Fungi

Abstract

Pu'er City in Yunnan Province is a major coffee-producing region in China. During a survey of saprobic fungi on decomposing Coffea arabica wood in Pu'er, fruiting bodies of an interesting fungus were collected and isolated. Through a comprehensive micro-morphological characterization of fungal structures, including conidial morphology, conidiophore, and conidiogenous cell development, supported by phylogenetic analyses were conducted using Maximum Likelihood (ML) and Bayesian Inference (BI) approaches with a combined dataset of ITS, LSU, and tef1-α sequence data, led to recognition of a novel species, which proposed as Cordana puerensis in this study. This represents the first record of Cordana sp. from coffee, thereby expanding the known host and ecological range of the genus.
