Abstract

A new species in the genus Amphibambusa (Cainiaceae), isolated from decaying bamboo culms in Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated here under the name Amphibambusa guangxiensis. Phylogenetic analyses of combined ITS and LSU sequence data support its recognition as a novel species based on maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference criteria. Amphibambusa guangxiensis is characterized by larger asci (160–235 μm in length) and larger ascospores (26–34 × 7.3–9.8 μm), which differentiate it from the closely related species A. bambusicola and A. aquatica. Descriptions and illustration of the new species are provided, as well as an updated key for accepted Amphibambusa species.
