Abstract

During the phylogenetic study of the genus Leutea (Apiaceae) in Iran, one of the recently introduced species from Kurdistan Province, namely L. kurdistanica, was found to be phylogenetically distant from the other related species and was nested within the Cachrys clade. Comparisons of morphological features and molecular phylogenetic analysis showed its relationship with the genus Sclerochorton containing the only species S. haussknechtii. Leutea kurdistanica differs from the other Leutea species by numerous stems, conical stylopodium, reflexed styles, corolla colour, number of matured fruits per umbellet etc. It also poses the same set of morphological features as S. haussknechtii and the identical sequences of nrITS, therefore we synonymize it under Sclerochorton haussknechtii, the new member of the Cachrys clade.
