Abstract
A new species of Torenia (Linderniaceae), T. goalparensis, is proposed based on material collected from Goalpara district of Assam, India. The new species is closely related to T. godefroyi but can be clearly distinguished by its smaller size, erect habit, ovate basal lamina that gradually becomes linear lanceolate, inflorescence with four flowers, all equal winged calyx lobes, slightly reddish towards the apex, presence of ciliate hairs towards the apices of the calyx, corolla pale pink, lips fully opened, upper lip with dark purple tinge on outer surface, and absence of horn-like appendages of the anterior filaments but having remnant staminal appendages like protuberances. Detailed taxonomic descriptions and photographs of different plant parts with diagnostic importance, along with comparisons with related species, are provided.
