Abstract

Liparis zhipingiana (Malaxideae, Orchidaceae), a new species from Motuo, Xizang Autonomous Region, China, is described and illustrated. Molecular phylogenetic analyses indicated that L. zhipingiana is closely related to Malaxis weberbaueriana from South Africa. Morphologically, L. zhipingiana is distinguished from its relatives by its plicate leaves, a U-shaped callus at the base of the lip, and a conical, short, and non-winged column.
