Abstract

Camellia sasanqua Thunb. (Murray 1784: 632; Theaceae), an endemic species to Japan, is a popular ornamental plant globally (Ming 2000). More than 1200 cultivars of this species have been registered for horticulture (Wang et al. 2019). Meanwhile, C. sasanqua holds considerable economic value because its seeds can produce high-quality oil for cooking and cosmetic application (Ming 2000, Feás et al. 2013). However, the type of C. sasanqua remains unresolved. It is vital to clarify the type for the stable nomenclature of C. sasanqua.
